WebRTC

What is WebRTC?

WebRTC is a shorter way of referring to Web Real-Time Communications. Basically, it’s a free, open-source technology project that makes real-time communications (like voice and video) a lot easier.

With WebRTC APIs, it’s possible for web apps to capture and stream audio and video. It also makes it possible for browsers to exchange data without a middleman like plug-ins or third-party software.  For instance, if you go to a website that uses your camera or microphone, or even screen-sharing – you’re using WebRTC.

Why is WebRTC important?

In the ever more globalized, remote world we live in, it’s essential to have access to real-time communications! WebRTC is necessary for everything from video calling to screen sharing to simple web apps that use the camera or microphone.
