Before you copy, paste, and hit send – keep these best SMS practices in mind:
Even friendly texts need to comply with regional and carrier regulations. So, a great rule of thumb is to include opt-out language in all of your subsequent messages.
For example: “Text STOP to unsubscribe.” or “Reply STOP to opt out.”
Another thing to keep in mind: You always need to get customer consent before sending them promotional messages. For example: “Reply YES for [Company Name] alerts. Msg & data rates may apply.” See more examples in our fitness SMS marketing guide.
Use names, class titles, and trainer names in your messages to build connection. An SMS platform like Sinch Engage will help you auto-insert these fields so you can send out personalized SMS reminders, promotions, and updates without a ton of manual work.
Stick to two to four messages per week max, unless it’s a short-term campaign.
Make sure the reader knows what action they should be taking next after they read your text, whether that’s reply, attend class, click a link, claim offer, etc.
Emojis increase engagement but the wrong ones send the wrong message, and too many can send red flags. Be sure to match your brand tone and use them sparingly.
Templates are only useful if you can use them effectively. Sinch Engage’s all-in-one SMS platform enables you to send and automate these text templates and power your entire SMS marketing strategy in just a few clicks.
